Spent way too much time playing around in Animoto trying to create a promo video highlighting my photography endeavors. Creatively strung out now. Stared at it so long I, like a true artist, now hate every photo I've included. >_<

Just got word tonight that one of my photos is a finalist for the Amateur Fine Art category in the FotoWeek DC contest. It will hang for a week in Georgetown, and I might even win something. :D Awards will be announced later, at a gala to be held at the National Geographic Society. Woop!!

I'm so getting my friend to model for me again and again now! )

First off, if you use Photoshop on any regular basis and you have not seen Photoshop Disasters, go enjoy: http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/

Second, Dane Cook's rant about the awful PS job done for his upcoming movie had me crying from laughing so hard: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=469452&blogID=423389935

I'm still giggling.

Watched a movie with this song in it, and I'm now addicted. I'll be looking more into Catherine Feeny's work. :)

Well, the first contest I was participating in ended back in March, and we were all patiently waiting for the next one to begin. To kill time in between, some of the mods decided to have a silly LOLcat contest.

And later decided there would be no second round of the big, totally awesome contest. Boo!

But I just found out I won the LOLcat contest. Yay!

The prize is having my photography web site paid for a year. It's expensive, so I'm happy. And my renewal was two weeks away!

Special thanks to Sketch for letting me torture him. )

Stolen from [info]yellowrosetx.

Here are the rules:

1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

Quotable quibbles behind here. )

Anyone ever take the MENSA pretest to determine your chances of passing the real MENSA test? Really fun if you like math and word problems.

I promised many to take and share the "after" photos of all the work I put into my new home, but I procrastinate like a mofo if I have no deadline to meet. With the parents arriving tonight, I did a thorough cleaning and straightening of the new digs...and figured I should take those "after" pictures while everything looks so pretty and clean. :D

Forgive the crappy stitching on the 'after' photos--I wasn't going for perfect pictures here, just display quality. :) )

Put up my tree for the first time in four years since my parents will be coming here this year instead of me heading back to Texas. This means I have to get the house in to shape--and cook my first Christmas dinner!

The kitties are thrilled... :D

...making a camera obscura is a bit harder than I'd thought it'd be. But it works! Unfortunately, I lost the good light by the time it was done.

Reshoot tomorrow. ::Chuckle::

"Dreamscape" will end up being a three-image composite instead of a two-image one, like I'd hoped. Argh.

I had waaaay too much fun at my night photography class last week. Thankfully, it was easy to get a couple others involved in my craziness.

What do you do in a big, empty field with a flashlight at 10pm? Lots of running around like an idiot, if you're me! )

As promised, here are a few of the photos from my road trip last weekend to the Poconos. )

The full gallery can be oohed and ahhed over here: http://www.theoriginalblackcat.com/gallery/3635892

It took a week because my computer decided to throw a hissy fit when I wanted to try out some new software for my photo workflow. In another news, Lightroom rocks. It magically makes my photos look even more awesome, I swear. The fact that I culled nearly 100 photos from two days is proof that LR makes me like my pictures more.

And a quick nonsequitor: I get stupid silly when given a flashlight for night photography. My classmates from last night now no longer wonder if I'm insane. They have photographic proof of it.

Some of those photos may pop up here in the near future. ::Grin::

I just had a telemarketer call and after the usual fake pleasantries, he launched into his spiel with this: "This is just a brief, recorded call..."

At the end of his speech, I told him he should look into revising the script so it didn't say "recorded call."

Most amuisng call I've had in a while.

I was out at the zoo for three hours yesterday. Then I went hiking in a nature preserve for another couple hours. I took more than 500 pictures, and my knees are killing me today.

This picture...isn't from any of that. ::grin:: Please, like I would have processed 500 photos in less than 24 hours? I got home and could barely force myself to eat dinner before going to sleep, much less post-process my pictures.

No, this photo is from a week ago, because I forgot about it. Poor thing. I wanted to put it here to make it feel better.

In the photography forum I now obsess over daily, they're currently having a semifinal round for their contest. Since I--along with many others--didn't qualify with any of my previous awesome entries in the qualifying rounds, the "losers" on the forum decided to create their own competition thread. Since, you know, we had two weeks to kill until the semifinal round was over and the next qualifying round would begin.

The theme chosen was "Abandoned or Inhabited."

My take on 'abandoned' behind the cut. )

Now on to the next official qualifying round! The theme is "Man or Machine." I have two weeks to figure out what the hell I'm going to shoot. :P
